EDC values it staff and recognises the need for flexible work options staff and well-being initiatives. It has had a Flexible Work Policy for some time and has been exploring new flexible work ideas to find options that work for both staff and the company. After consultation with staff, EDC has decided to undertake a three-month trial of the nine-day fortnight where staff still work their 80 hours, working slightly longer hours each day; and then get every second Friday off work.
Over half the full-time staff have taken up this option and both the company and staff are keen to see how it works. The trial runs from June through to August.
Here is what some of the staff have to say about working a nine-day fortnight:
“I’m looking forward to trialing the 9-day fortnight as it’s a small daily adjustment to make to my working hours to then be able to have an extra day free every other week. This is great for an improved work/life balance and will make it much easier to find time to get those little errands done that can otherwise pile up.”
“I am going to enjoy the long weekends.”
“A day off so that I can have more time for my hobbies and still have spare time on the weekend.”
“An extra day off so that I can come back even more refreshed from the weekend.”
