EDC were approached by ElectroNet to provide structural design input for a 33 kV Outdoor to Indoor (ODID) conversion transportable electrical switchroom building. EDC embraced the challenge of providing a design for this unorthodox project within a very short timeframe constraint. The end product is a transportable switchroom which can be built ahead of and in parallel with site works, saving significant time (3 weeks instead of months), reducing weight and carbon footprint. It is an innovative, value engineered product that has addressed existing challenges but has also meant greater flexibility to adjust location during construction due to its portability.
The building project was recently recognised as ElectroNet won the Value engineering category in the 2022 Transpower Engineering and Technology Excellence Awards. The judges said: Your [Electronet’s] entire project approach was exceptional. They appreciated the continued refinements made and the benefits of starting the build before on site, which had an incredible impact on reducing the time it took to commission.
October 2023 Update: EDC are very excited to announce that ElectroNet won the SILVER award at the ACE NZ 2023 Awards, which were recently held in Wellington. “Electronet is recognised for working collaboratively with its client and key stakeholders, challenging the historical construction and delivery model to develop a modular solution that dramatically cuts site construction time”.
We would like to congratulate our partners, ElectroNet and Transpower New Zealand, on this wonderful achievement.
